Polishing things up - make your car shine!
Make your car look as good as you do with our top tips on car polish. We guarantee your car will be turning heads after you digest this carwash of content from Motorama’s Tia Richards.
So, let’s talk about polish…
I know what you’re thinking, is it necessary? Well, you be the judge, but polish definitely isn’t pointless. Think of it as the screen protector that you paid silly money for because you’ve just got the latest iPhone. Its job is to protect your phone from scratches and scrapes.
Polish has the same job as the phone protector, but instead of keeping your phone pristine, car polish shields your car.
Polish acts as a defence, just like boxing gloves for boxers or that can of hairspray that painters use to protect their painting…
Look, I could drive you mad with metaphors (pardon the pun), so do yourself a favour and get a bottle of polish… but what one you ask? Don’t worry we can help you with that.
So, what’s the best?
From boot to bonnet these are some of the top picks of polish for your car:
• Autoglym Super Resin Polish
• Halfords Car Polish
• Mer MASUP1 Ultimate Shine Polish
• AutoKit Car Polish
These are just the top four there’s LOADS of polishes out there.
How to get handy with the polish?
Yep, there is a technique, it’s not hard but you do work up a sweat. So, if you haven’t been to the gym in a while then this is the perfect excuse to say you’ve worked out… GUILT BE GONE!
1) Make sure your car is clean – this means washing it by the way not just wiping away the dirty bits. Wash the WHOLE car.
2) Get a microfibre cloth on hand to dry the car.
3) Now this is where the workout starts. Take your polish and squirt a pea-sized amount onto a DRY microfibre cloth and work it into the car section by section. So, start with the bonnet and work around the car. Feeling like its lightwork? Wait until your 10 minutes in…
How often should you polish?
Ever heard of the bead test? Well if you haven’t then let me explain…
Let’s say you polished your car a couple of months ago and are wondering if it needs to be polished again, well the bead test will tell you. All you need to do is throw a bowl of water (that’s room temperature, so it doesn’t scold your car) over the bonnet. Let the water do the talking – if it streams off your car WITHOUT making bead shapes then it’s time for a polish.
Feeling a bit scratchy? This will cheer you up!
One of the most frequently asked questions around car polish is “does polish remove scratches?” The answer is yes, it does! (YAY). However, polish is not a miracle worker, it only removes light scratches not massive scrapes.
To make your life easier, there are polishes out there that are specifically designed to remove scratches like the Gtechniq P1 Nano Composite Polish or Auto Finesse Revitalise Polish 2.
The verdict - to polish or not to polish?
Want your car to look like it’s brand-spanking-new even if it isn’t? Then car polish is the answer. Not only will it protect your car, it will make it look super shiny too – you know, that new car gleam.
